You can even do shared executions where both players team up to take out a large group of enemies. A moment later, the other can mark a patrol of enemies and execute them in a heartbeat. One person can sneak up behind an enemy and knock him out. In the co-op game, these tokens can be shared. In fact, you'll have to move in for a close quarters kill to earn an Execute token. In the single player game, players can earn the option to quickly and efficiently execute enemies they mark while hiding behind cover. More interesting is how the Mark and Execute gameplay has been adopted to two players.
Pointing out patrolling guards, warning of incoming enemies, or simple timed breaches are all things that effective pairs will practice and perfect. Most of the teamwork will come in the form of communication. The only subtle changes come in how you interact. The controls are all identical as what you get in the single player game, so making the switch to playing with a friend is no big hassle. The most exciting part about the co-operative mode is how the gameplay rewards players for working as a team. In short, it was the perfect place for a spy to do his thing. The cold, metallic environment left plenty of dark corners to hide in and ceiling pipes to shimmy across. The level I played a section of began in a Soviet era bunker. This dire threat forces former Cold War enemies to work together in an effort to save millions. These are fully fledged super soldiers, decked out with all of the futuristic gadgets and goodies you could want. You and a friend will team up as Archer and Kestrel, an unlikely pairing of American and Russian spies. This is a complete stand-alone prequel campaign with four unique maps to explore. This is not just the option of playing through the main game co-operatively.
The star of the multiplayer suite is the aforementioned co-operative story sequence. I recently got my hands on a bit of this co-op mode and had the opportunity to chat with Ubisoft about the other multiplayer options available in Conviction. Splinter Cell Conviction has a complete five hour long prologue starring two brand new heroes that will tell the story of the events leading up to Fisher's current crisis. In fact, he isn't even the only one you'll control. As you will learn, Fisher isn't the only super spy. He's a bit of a loose cannon now and his former allies are out to take him down, Bourne Identity style.
